Dr. Adnan Shahzad
Mentor/Assistant Professor, Institute of Chemical Science, University of Swat
Dr. Adnan Shahzad is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Chemical Science, University of Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He earned his Ph.D. in Inorganic/Coordination Chemistry from the University of Malakand in 2016, following an M.Sc. and B.Sc. from the same institution.
Dr. Shahzad's research spans coordination chemistry, computational and quantum chemistry, and materials science. His work includes designing ligands and coordination compounds for biological and catalytic applications, molecular and ligand-protein docking studies, and drug-DNA interaction analysis. He is also active in computational modeling of electrode materials for Li?/Na?/K?-ion batteries and the electronic and optical properties of doped materials, using tools such as Gaussian and Materials Studio.
He has authored or co-authored over 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals, including Molecules, Crystals, Food Chemistry Advances, Critical Reviews in Analytical Chemistry, and the Journal of Coordination Chemistry, covering topics from thiourea-based enzyme inhibitors to graphene-based adsorbents and Schiff base derivatives.
Since joining the University of Swat in 2017, Dr. Shahzad has supervised numerous M.Phil. students on projects ranging from graphene quantum dots and porphyrin-based battery cathode materials to computational drug design against tuberculosis, cancer, and COX enzyme targets. He is the recipient of an HEC scholarship at the M.Phil level and a PKR 0.5 million Startup Research Grant Program (SRGP) award from the Higher Education Commission.
